Industry 4.0 Application in Manufacturing Industry @ NFU – December 2, 2021
Effinno Technologies Consultant Hank Tsai was invited to speak on [Industry 4.0 Application in Manufacturing Industry] to the senior students who are studying in the course “Lean Production” at the Department of Industrial Management of National Formosa University in Yunlin, Taiwan, on December 2, 2021.
In this speech, Hank started by leading the students to review some fundamental Industry 4.0 terms and concepts from the manufacturing industry’s perspective, followed by talks about how to recognize Industry 4.0 application opportunities for a manufacturing company, how to recognize and evaluate the right solution to get on Industry 4.0 track, how to develop Industry 4.0 application strategies and road map to boost a company’s continuous growth.
Hank used the recently launched Light MES as an example to show the students how digitized raw data, digitalizing work processes, and cloud computing technology have transformed the conventional machine utilization and OEE management of the manufacturing industry into a paperless, real-time, and much more efficient manner. To make them feel more realistic about the transformation, all students were assigned a machine each and played the role of factory operator to exercise Light MES for machine hour reporting and quality reporting via their mobile phones individually, then Hank led them to review and interpret their machines’ real-time machine status, utilization rate, and OEE according to the data they had reported just a few seconds ago.
At the end of the speech, Hank encouraged the students by telling them that what they are learning from the course “Lean Production” is essentially the groundwork for successful Industry 4.0 applications – Develop the right workflow first, then search for the right technology to facilitate its effectiveness even more efficiently, not climb on the bandwagon to adopt a hot-topic technology first, then downgrade company’s well-done practices to fit it as the expense. Do not put the cart before the horse.
