Digitalizing Carbon Footprint Inventory of Products and Component Supply Chains
It’s a pleasure that Effinno Consultant, Hank Tsai, was invited to speak on [Digitalizing Carbon Footprint Inventory of Products and Component Supply Chains] at TECA (Taiwan Electronic Connection Association) Forum 2023 on September 26.
It’s arguable that product companies without manufacturing in-house claim great reductions in their organization-level carbon footprints while their component supply chains and the components’ component supply chains might actually produce even more in total to meet the product requirements specified by the very product companies.
In this speech, firstly, Hank explained the fundamental structure of a component’s carbon footprint inventory for the component maker to calculate the amount of carbon footprint it produces and loads in the supply chain and the integrated structure of calculating the cumulative carbon footprint across a supply chain from acquiring the very beginning raw materials (cradles) to the delivery gate of final product assembly company.
Secondly, Hank talked about the importance and advantages of digitalizing carbon footprint inventory of products and their component supply chains because it is an efficient way for product companies to know the resulting carbon footprint of their product designs across the selected raw material and component companies in the supply chains on a daily or batch basis, then to certain the opportunities of carbon reductions and improvement action effectiveness in a data-supported and responsive manner, rather than formally document and report the paper-work inventory at the organization level once a year.
Finally, Hank encouraged the present companies in supply chains to stop watching and embark on their component carbon footprint inventory with the goal that they can make convincing self-verification-and-declarations of the increased or cumulative amounts of carbon footprint on the components they produce by labeling the amounts on the component deliveries. It’s believed that more and more product companies will look for component suppliers who have been familiar with providing reliable carbon footprint data to help get complete views of carbon footprint performance across their supply chains.
Be a connection of carbon footprint inventory between your upstream and downstream supply chain, not discontinuity.
